J S Alton & Son is a Ripon-based farm that specialises in the raising of pigs and the manufacture of prepared feeds for farm animals. On-site requirements include ventilation, lighting and feed systems, alongside an on-site mill and grain drying facilities. With these activities, electricity consumption is vast and therefore has a heavy impact on the costs of operations.

OVERVIEW
SOLUTION
We first began working alongside J S Alton & Sons in 2012 to provide on-roof solar PV on the barley shed installing 212 panels totalling a system size of 49kW. Following a successful installation and demonstration of cost-saving, JS Alton returned to Duncan Renewables, this time to utilise some available ground space for a 138kW ground-mounted system, which consisted of 552 panels. Our collaboration has continued right through to 2024 with several installations and extensions. In 2024, we installed a 304kW ground-mounted system to further support the electricity demands of this large farm, bringing the total installed capacity to over 630kW.
