  • The Biomass Installation

This guide provides an introduction to the installation of a Biomass Boiler.

For more examples of Biomass Installations take a look at our case studies.

  • Unloading of the Boiler & Buffer

The Boiler and Buffer are delivered to site and positioned within the plant room. It is important that the buffer store is situated as close as possible to the boiler to reduce any unnecessary heat transfer losses.

  • First Fix Piping

Once the boiler and buffer have been positioned the first fix plumbing is carried out in which the pipe route is marked out and planned according to the pre designed and planned schematic diagram for the install. The pipe brackets are then installed and the pipes connected between the boiler and the buffer. The buffer is then connected via flow and return to the current heating systems in place.

  • Second Fix Piping

At the second fix heat meters are installed in order to measure the heat production of the boiler as well as the heat usage on the system. The piping for the system is then joined and sealed. Once everything has been checked over the system is filled and pressure tested. The pipes are then lagged and insulated to prevent heat losses through the pipes.

  • Erecting the Flue

The flue pipe for the boiler is erected up to the roof of the building for the safe release of emissions. The boiler is connected to the flue by a flue connecting pipe which is gas tight and provides ventilation for the boiler. A draught regulator is also fitted with pressure surge compensation.

  • Electric Fixing

The initial stage of the electrical work involves running the cables to the plant room in order to power the boiler and connecting the end terminals.

  • Fuel Store

A fuel store is purpose built for each project which reduces fuel delivery frequencies from pellet or wood chip suppliers to as little as twice a year. A purpose built fuel store also eliminates the need for manually filling the boiler by hand with the use of an automated feed system direct from fuel store to the boiler hopper.

  • Additional Works

In the case of an external pipe run between the plant room and the heating system, a trench is dug in order to lay the piping underground at a sufficient depth as to reduce heat loss. All external piping is heavily insulated in purpose-manufactured external heating pipe reducing heat losses to the environment.

  • Final Checks

After completing the installation of the system, a full and thorough check of all joints and pipes is performed. All fittings and connections are also checked in regards to pipe fittings, the flue and electrical works.

  • Commissioning

After final checks, the boiler and heating system are fully commissioned by one of our qualified heating engineers. The boiler is then programmed to the correct heating parameters and the owner of the installation is trained in its operation and basic maintenance before the project is handed over.
